Clemson Tigers Rake in a Solid Recruiting Class

February 6, 2013 5:30 PM ~
Today is National Signing Day, which is the deadline for high school football players to submit their Letter of Intent, signifying which college they are going to attend and play football for. I'm not really big into recruiting so I haven't followed this closely, but Tigernet has a pretty good wrapup on their site. Here is the tally of all the recruits we got this year:

My favorite in this class is Boulware, the Middle Linebacker. I watched one of those all-star games at the end of the year on ESPN, and he was an animal. He plays football the way a Linebacker is supposed to. Ought to be fun to watch.

Dabo isn't the best coach, but he's a damn good recruiter. When you think about the kids that got bought off late in the game (several 5-star recruits changed their mind at the last minute) this could have been the best class in Clemson history. As it stands, it is pretty solid.

Man up, Phil Mickelson

January 23, 2013 9:45 AM ~
Apparently the PC thought control machine has caught up with Phil Mickelson and strong-armed him into making an apology for his comments about higher taxes and his own personal plans to relocate to a more tax-friendly location:

News from The Associated Press.

Mickelson, regarded as the "People's Choice" for his connection with fans, put his popularity on the line with polarizing comments about how much he has to pay in state and federal taxes. The four-time major champion said it might lead to "drastic changes," such as moving from his native California, and that it already caused him to pull out of the San Diego Padres' new ownership group.

His only regret was not keeping his opinion to himself.

"Finances and taxes are a personal matter, and I should not have made my opinions on them public," Mickelson said in a statement released Monday night. "I apologize to those I have upset or insulted, and assure you I intend not to let it happen again."

Bullshit, Phil. I don't know why you're back-peddling now; maybe it is a sponsor pressuring you, maybe it's a family member, who knows, but be a man and stand by what you said. Not only should you do it out of character alone, but you should also do it because you were telling the truth!

Taxation is theft, period. No involuntary payment can be considered moral, no matter how many people vote for it. You were right to criticize taxes, and the world needs more people to stand up and say the same. Be the Hank Rearden, not the Wesley Mouch.

Manti Te'o's Girlfriend a Hoax, Notre Dame Responds

January 16, 2013 5:35 PM ~
Manti Te'o's Dead Girlfriend, The Most Heartbreaking And Inspirational Story Of The College Football Season, Is A Hoax.

This is one of those WTF moments. I never thought Te'o was that impressive on the field, and he showed in the Alabama game that he was a pretender, but now we find out that he pretends about a lot of stuff...

Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. A Mormon linebacker who led his Catholic school's football program back to glory, Te'o was whipsawed between personal tragedies along the way. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te'o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.

Notre Dame posted this on their facebook page:

Notre Dame Statement: Manti Te’o

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.
